Conference
of Southern Baptist Evangelists
Evangelists
will focus on the theme of "Jesus ... Not Ashamed!"
during the worship service sponsored by the Conference
of Southern Baptist Evangelists prior to each year's
Southern Baptist Convention annual meeting.
The
worship service in Indianapolis will be from
9 a.m. to noon June 13 at the Indiana Convention Center,
Sagamore Ballrooms 1, 2 & 3, and is open to all pastors,
messengers, families and local residents.
Three Southern
Baptist evangelists will be the featured speakers: Johnny
Tucker of International Missions Association in Citronelle,
Ala.; Sammy Tippit of Sammy Tippit Ministries in San Antonio;
and Jerry Burgess of Divine Design Ministries in Whitley City,
Ky. Music will be led by various Southern Baptist music evangelists.
In
addition to the worship service, the Vocational Evangelists
Annual Retreat will be June 11-12
at the Holiday Inn Select near the airport
in Indianapolis. Sponsored by the North American Mission Board’s
event evangelism unit, the retreat theme will be "Passion
for the Journey."
Among
the retreat speakers will be Bailey Smith,
former SBC president and founder of Real Evangelism, Inc.,
in Atlanta; Gerald Harris, editor of The Christian Index in
Atlanta; and Benny Jackson, president of COSBE and founder
of the Benny Jackson Evangelistic Association in Germantown,
Tenn.
All
Southern Baptist vocational evangelists are invited to participate
in the retreat and may make reservations
by contacting Melonie Wallace at mwallace@namb.net
or (770) 410-6304.
The
annual business meeting of the Conference
of Southern Baptist Evangelists will begin with an
11 a.m. luncheon Monday, June 14, at the
Crowne Plaza Hotel. COSBE members may make
reservations by contacting Margaret Allen
at allensingers@aol.com
or (405) 359-7146.
One item of business
will be to address proposed changes to the organization's
bylaws. Several members have asked that a president be allowed
to serve more than one term, while others have indicated they
would support a change in the bylaws to allow non-COSBE members
to speak at the organization's annual conferences.
In addition to
Jackson, this year’s COSBE officers are Keith Fordham
of Georgia, vice president; Margaret Allen of Oklahoma, secretary
and treasurer; Sid Peterson of California, parliamentarian;
and Jerry Chaddick of Mississippi, adviser to pastors.
