SBC 2002 Annual Meeting

Through a missions emphasis fashioned around
the SBC theme of "The Highest Power for the Greatest
Task, Southern Baptists made a fresh commitment to evangelism
and to missions to reach people for Christ."
We also introduced a new thrust, "Empowering
Kingdom Growth," as a vision for what Jesus taught and
called for -- a thoroughgoing concentration on the kingdom
of God. The EKG thrust has been endorsed by the Southern Baptist
Association of State Convention Executive Directors and the
SBC Executive Committee.

As a result of these efforts in His name,
over 1,300 people came to know Christ as their personal Savior.
336 received Christ through the Block Parties, 37 through
door-to-door contacts, 694 came to a saving knowledge of our
Lord through the ICE teams four-day, inner city effort, 186
were reached through personal contacts with individual messengers,
and 95 accepted Christ through the Evangelism Response Center
phone contacts.
Praise Jesus for a plentiful harvest of
1,348 souls for the Kingdom! In addition to this, 175 prospects
were discovered for the local churches. Our sincere thanks
to all who prayed, shared Christ, and encouraged those who
were on the front lines.

SBC 2000 Annual Meeting

In the year 2000, the Cooperative Program
marks its 75th Anniversary, and a national emphasis is underway
to celebrate this historic event. Partners in the Harvest
is, first of all, a celebration, recognizing the Cooperative
Program's history and accomplishments, and the men and women
who have taken the message of salvation to a lost world.
But perhaps more importantly, Partners
in the Harvest casts a new vision for Southern Baptist missions.
As we enter the 21st century, the need for missions has never
been more acute, the opportunity never greater. With all of
our evangelistic emphasis, there are still millions who have
never heard the name of Jesus. To help meet this critical
need, we have launched what could be the greatest missions
effort in Southern Baptist history: Partners in the Harvest.
We need your help, your prayers, your financial support, but
most of all, we need your commitment to lead your church in
this important endeavor.

SBC 1999 Annual Meeting

Southern Baptists began intensified efforts
to strengthen their unified muscle -- the Cooperative Program
-- and to use it in an invigorated way to reach people who
have not heard the gospel not only abroad but also in the
nation's mega-cities, as they met June 15-16 in Atlanta.
Also of significant interest to Baptists
at this year's annual meeting -- the 142nd in the SBC's 154-year
history -- is the OK given by messengers to a study of the
convention's statement of beliefs, the Baptist Faith and Message,
a 1963 document expanded last year with an article on the
family.
